Security Sector Reform in Constitutional Transition

“Security Sector Reform in Constitutional Transitions” is a book designed to enable emerging democratic states to learn from the defense-security sector and constitutional-legal reform experiences in various parts of the globe.

Security Sector Reforms (SSR) are key in developing democracies that are changing from the autocratic rule. In the book, there is the use of different case studies to portray the way democratic rule has an influence on the militia, tribal forces, dominant military, police and intelligence agencies.

The content of the book is in three parts: military dictatorships, police states and post-authoritarian reforms. It goes deep in the chapters and uses different countries to put a lens on conflict.

Zoltan Barany, Sumit Bisarya and Richard Stacey also took part in the editing of the studies with him making it available for purchase in Amazon since September 19th, 2019.

“He’s by far the best comparative constitutional scholar of his generation,” says Sanford Levinson of the University of Texas School of Law. These are the words of a character who sees the genius in him as a result of his passion for what he puts his fingers to, this is Sujit Choudhry. He is the Director of the Center of Constitutional Transitions. Besides that, he would be termed as an icon in comparative constitutional law, and a Guest Researcher for the Centre for Global Constitutionalism at the WZB Berlin Social Science Centre. He is also a Senior Advisor to the Forum of Federations.

He was born in New Delhi under the roof of two intellectuals; Nanda his father a lecturer in the University of Toronto and Ushi his mother a teacher in nursing, thus the desire to excel and to be academicians arose in him and his brother Niteesh. In conclusion, Sujit is an epitome of comparative constitutional law and this book just shows it all.
