Dr. Andrew Jacono Trains the Next Generation of Surgeons

Surgical techniques spread when experienced surgeons pass them on. Dr. Andrew Jacono serves as Fellowship Director for the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, a position centered on preparing future specialists. A January 2026 profile places that work at the heart of his academic career.

Lessons Drawn From His Own Path

His own preparation offers a model for trainees. After earning his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1996, he completed an Otolaryngology residency at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He was chosen as administrative chief resident there. An accredited fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery came next, and he later achieved dual board certification.

Today he teaches at his alma mater as an Associate Clinical Professor. He also leads the Section of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at North Shore University Hospital.

Sharing the Deep-Plane Method

A central part of what he teaches is his own invention. Dr. Andrew Jacono developed the Minimal Access Deep-Plane Extended (MADE) facelift in the early 2000s. Rather than stretching skin, it lifts skin, muscle, and fat as one unit, giving natural results that may last 12 to 15 years. His 2021 textbook on extended deep-plane facelifting lays out the approach for other surgeons.

His reach extends through print and the podium. He has written more than 70 peer-reviewed articles for journals such as Aesthetic Surgery Journal and JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, and he has presented at over 100 international conferences.

Trainees also see a model of service. He has performed more than 750 surgeries on children with cleft lips, palates, and other deformities, and treated over 100 domestic violence survivors through the FACE TO FACE program. His Most Compassionate Doctor Award, earned each year from 2012 to 2022, reflects that commitment.

Newsweek ranked him the third-best facelift surgeon in the country for 2025. For the fellows he mentors, Dr. Andrew Jacono offers both a technique and an example of how to use it. Refer to this article for related information.
